How did you get into the field of HR and Benefits? “During my freshman year at Adelphi University, I was introduced to the field of Human Resources. I found it was a field that would allow me to exercise my love for problem-solving, helping others, and continuing to learn while making a lasting impact on those around me. When I started at the Library, I was a temp in our HR Service Center, which provides a range of HR services and support to our employees and retirees. At the time, I was just looking for a full-time role after graduating and had no idea I would spend the next 11 years learning and growing at NYPL. I was fortunate enough to join an amazing HR team, where they cultivated and engaged my curiosity. Our VP of HR, Terrance Neal, encouraged me to obtain my Masters of Science in Industrial Labor Relations, which deepened my love and respect for the field of HR.” |
What drew you to join NEBGH, and what programs are you most excited about? “At the Library, we are always looking for ways to enhance our health and wellness strategy. I was introduced to NEBGH by Jennifer Levesque, Senior Director, HR when I expressed interest in deepening my knowledge of benefits and building more connections in the field. Joining the NEBGH was an opportunity for me to access member-only resources to improve our health and wellness programs, network and collaborate with others in the field of HR and benefits, and learn more about the latest trends, regulations, and best practices. I’m very excited to attend the upcoming Annual Health & Wellness Benefits Conference since it will be my first event since joining NEBGH. I rescheduled an upcoming vacation day in order to attend, so saying I have high expectations is an understatement.” What do you enjoy doing outside of work that helps you recharge and stay passionate about the work you do? “Like many others, I wear many hats outside of work, one of which is being the parent of a very active and inquisitive four-year-old. That being said, the majority of my free time is spent playing with dinosaurs and looking for activities to keep my toddler busy. On Sundays, I love making big breakfasts, going to church to refill my cup, and taking afternoon naps. I also enjoy going for walks and being by the water. All these things allow me to recharge, stay motivated, and continue my work.” |
