Job Title: Director of Membership, Northeast Business Group on Health
The Northeast Business Group on Health (NEBGH), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, is an employer-led coalition of healthcare leaders and stakeholders with 180 members including employer purchasers, health plans, health systems, benefit consultants, unions, pharmaceutical companies and innovators. NEBGH’s mission is to empower our members to drive excellence in health and achieve the highest value in healthcare delivery and the consumer experience.

Job Summary: The Director of Membership at NEBGH is tasked with devising and implementing strategies to expand and sustain the organization’s membership. Central to this role is developing and executing plans to attract, retain, and engage members, thereby ensuring a dynamic and expanding membership base. This pivotal position involves overseeing daily membership operations and serving as the key point of contact for member organizations. Working closely with the marketing and programs teams, the Director of Membership will coordinate membership initiatives, manage membership databases, and leverage membership data for strategic purposes.

Location: Manhattan/Remote
Hours: 40+ hours per week (full time, exempt)
Compensation: $80,000-$100,000
Reports to: SVP, Operations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Membership Strategy and Growth
    • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve membership growth and retention goals.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance membership benefits and value propositions.
    • Collaborate with senior management to align membership strategies with organizational objectives.
    • Research and identify prospective members, develop member recruitment strategies and collateral, continually pitch to new members.
    • Manage the sales cycle in Salesforce, recording all invoices and payments.
    • Clearly and concisely describe the benefits of membership with NEBGH to members.
  • Membership Operations Management
    • Update member data regularly to ensure accuracy.
    • Keep detailed notes about contacts, renewal related issues, and other relevant member-specific information.
    • Develop an advanced analytics model to evaluate member trends, preferences and engagement.
    • Submit renewal notices, membership benefit fact sheets and invoices to all member organizations.
    • Address issues regarding membership dues and renewals directly with members, elevating to NEBGH leadership when appropriate.
    • Prepare member-specific reports to demonstrate engagement with the benefits of a given membership.
  • Membership Communication
    • Develop and execute communication strategies to keep members informed and engaged.
    • Work with the Marketing and Programs team to boost engagement for events, webinars, and networking opportunities for members.
    • Monitor member feedback and satisfaction levels; implement improvements as needed.
  • Membership Engagement
    • Run quarterly engagement reports to assess event attendance levels for employer members.
    • Develop targeted outreach messaging to improve engagement and boost registration for events.
    • Develop post-event follow up messaging for attendees and non-attendees.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in membership management, preferably in a nonprofit or association setting.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in membership management software and CRM systems.
  • Ability to work independently, juggle competing deadlines, attend to detail and collaborate effectively with other team members.

About Northeast Business Group on Health
The organization’s activities include:

  • Educational and informational programs for HR/benefit leaders and other stakeholders that draw upon benefits best practices and regionally and nationally-recognized experts, industry leaders and clinicians for guidance on topics such as healthcare benefits delivery, mental health, chronic disease management, and major illnesses such as cancer and diabetes. Programs include NEBGH’s signature event – a full-day Annual Health and Wellness Benefits Conference attracting 300+ participants.
  • Innovative projects in areas including pandemic planning, social determinants of health, racial health equity, cancer, caregiving, maternal health, mental health and specialty pharma, among others, designed to provide employers (and in some cases consumers) with tools and practical solutions.
  • Collaborations with outside organizations to develop and implement solutions for enhanced access to healthcare and improvements in care quality and value. Such collaborations have included five-year development of a new model of advanced primary care with the state of New York, a multi-year national project on mental health and substance use and acting as a Healthy People 2030 Champion with the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services’ Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
  • Facilitation of networking groups designed for senior benefits leaders, emerging benefits leaders and medical directors.
  • Special projects and task forces that engage employers and other stakeholders in driving healthcare quality and value improvements.
  • Development of an Annual Tribute to Leadership event honoring leaders in healthcare, business and employee health and wellness.
  • Creation of newsletters, websites, social media and other methods of communications and promotions.
