Elizabeth Franklin, PhD, MSW

Head, US Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy, Oncology

Elizabeth Franklin, PhD, MSW, is an advocate for people impacted by cancer and is passionate about ensuring that patient voices are the north star in health care decision and policy making. Dr. Franklin currently serves as Head, U.S. Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy, Oncology with Sanofi. Dr. Franklin has also served in leadership positions in national nonprofit patient advocacy organizations. She received the Association of Oncology Social Worker’s Quality of Life Award in 2022 and was named a 40 under 40 leader in oncology in 2020. Her research articles have appeared in numerous peer reviewed publications. She has co-authored two books on non-profit leadership and co-edited two social work texts. In addition, she is a member and leader in various organizations and coalitions, including the Association of Oncology Social Work, Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators, National Navigation Roundtable, and National Association of Social Workers. Dr. Franklin earned a doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Social Work where she focused her dissertation on the ways in which patients define value in the cancer care system and how those definitions can be incorporated into public policy and clinical practice. She also earned her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky.

Marissa Fors, LCSW, OSW-C, CCM

Director of Specialized Programs

Marissa Fors, LCSW, OSW-C, CCM, is a respected leader in oncology social work with experience dedicated to serving people with cancer and underserved communities. As Director of Specialized Programs at CancerCare, she oversees program development and delivery of free services to those affected by cancer, including resource navigation, while maintaining a culturally competent clinical practice focused on health equity and addressing healthcare disparities.

Marissa holds a Master’s from NYU and additional certifications in Oncology Social Work and Case Management. Her expertise includes Clinical Supervision, Executive Leadership, and Clinical Trauma Competency. She is passionate about mentoring future social workers and has earned a Seminar in Field Instruction certification to guide interns and students.

An active member of the Association of Oncology Social Work and the National Association of Social Workers – NYC Chapter, Marissa contributes to policy development and advocacy in the social work field. Her writing, featured in multiple publications, focuses on improving cancer care outcomes and addressing disparities for vulnerable populations.

Honored with the NASW-NYC Leadership Award in 2020, the 40 Under 40 in Cancer Award in 2021, and Social Worker of the Year in 2023, Marissa continues to lead with a commitment to social justice and positive change in oncology care.
