In recognition of Healthy Vision Month and UV Awareness Month, this episode of NEBGH Voices explores the importance of protecting and preserving eye health throughout life.

Kim Thiboldeaux is joined by Dr. Brenton Finklea, a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery, to discuss preventive vision care, UV protection, and the value of regular eye screenings. The conversation also highlights common eye conditions, the impact of aging, nutrition and eye health, digital eye strain, and emerging innovations in vision care.

Listeners will come away with practical tips to help protect their vision, support long-term eye health, and better understand the steps they can take today to prevent future vision problems.

Brenton Finklea, MD

Director of the Center for Academic Global Ophthalmology

Brenton Finklea, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist practicing out of Philadelphia with subspecialty training in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery. He completed his ophthalmology residency and global ophthalmology fellowships at the Wills Eye Hospital and obtained fellowship training in cornea and anterior segment surgery from Duke University. As director of the Center for Academic Global Ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital, Dr. Finklea manages the international projects and initiatives of the hospital and residency program. He co-directs the global ophthalmology fellowship and is an instructor for the cornea fellowship program at Wills Eye as well. Dr. Finklea has taught ophthalmology and eye surgery around the world, including in Rwanda, Burundi, Sierra Leone, India, and Haiti. In the USA, he frequently lectures and leads courses on corneal transplantation, manual small incision cataract surgery and advanced anterior segment reconstruction. In Philadelphia, he is a partner in a private practice - Ophthalmic Partners of Pennsylvania.
